I've never done this so I don't know what I'm doing haha... Well, I took apart and old dvd player and got out the RCA outs (it's for a surround sound system) It had it connected to the rest of the player with a ribbon cable... I was wondering if I could simply connect the second end of the cable to a board (like a modem or anything salvaged from a keyboard really) and then, to that, add something like buttons/keys for input. this way when i press a key/button it goes in through the modem or whatever and then it goes into the dvd rca-out board, then through a speaker. Does it sound like I have even SORT of an idea here? I know it will be a lot more complicated but I think this is the basic idea... I want to try and box it all in a case if it's possible... and then have the rca's inside and connect regular stereo outs for an amp or something... it's just more conveniant for me that way....

Sorry, but WTF? You're trying to merge a perfectly decent DVD player with a modem? Riiiiiiight.....

lol nah. the dvd player was f**ked... It didn't even turn on. I just took that surround sound rca panel off the back thinking it could be of some use and threw the rest away. And you didn' answer my question I was also thinking if i got a stereo-to-rca plug I could just hook the actual stereo system (which all works) to my computer.

I'm still not answering your question (sorry) but: You just want a little surround sound thing for your modem synth? Sounds interesting.

the RCA panel can act as an audio out. connect the ribbon to the board in the same manner that you would a speaker or other audio out jack.

alright. last night I got a really old comp and took it apart. I am going to try and use the whole mother board (the modem was built in to it) I want to use the same power supply and the parts from the compute and try to make some case or something for the parts. If I can pull this off I will be amazed... And if so, I would like to try to make more for maybe NES parts or something (I imagine that could work... It's probably be even easier than what I'm trying now because its components are all there already.) anyways. when i decided to salvage parts of the dvd player I really had no plans... I only thought of trying to make something with a modem after I took it out... I think it's at least a good project for a 'virgin' synth/keyboard maker like myself.

I'd really put some thought into this before you just start arbitrarily hooking things together. Especially if you're using mains power with the motherboard.
As for the NES, the SID chip is a highly desired 8-bit sound source, so you may find something interesting in there, but demonstrate extreme caution doing this stuff if you don't know what you're doing.

Thanks for the tip. I have been looking at the parts and it SEEMS simple enough at least. And I would certainly be careful if i had current going through it. I already have all the compnents from the same computer (on/off button, speaker, modem, and power suply and all the wires.) and a keypad and line outs, I just have to figure out where/how to attatch the input device(s) to make the modem work when I press buttons or keys or whatever.
